St. Ermin’s Hotel Purchased by the Chen Family
The famous St. Ermin's Hotel in Westminster, London, was recently purchased by the Tei-Fu & Oi-Lin Chen family, founders and owners of Sunrider International. The purchase represents the most recent luxury hotel acquisition by the Chen family, who also own and operate the Sunworld Dynasty™ Hotel Group in addition to other premier real estate holdings worldwide.

A large property, particularly for London, the four-star St. Ermin’s Hotel boasts 331 well-appointed rooms and suites. Its distinctive interior design features tiers of sweeping staircases, curved balconies, and rococo plasterwork ceilings. Bright and airy, the lobby, library, and restaurant surround a lushly planted courtyard, an unusual luxury in this bustling part of the city.

Constructed upon the site of a 15th-century chapel, St. Ermin’s Hotel has a rich and intriguing history. Originally built as mansions in 1889, the mansion blocks were converted into a hotel in 1899 resulting in a major redesign by famed Victorian theater designer J.P. Briggs. In 1940, Winston Churchill held a historic meeting at St. Ermin’s Hotel with the founding members of the SOE (Special Operations Executive). The unit carried out covert operations during WW II from their headquarters—an entire floor of St. Ermin’s Hotel. In the 1950s, Guy Burgess, a member of the infamous Cambridge Five spy ring, handed over secret papers to his Russian counterpart in the Caxton Bar.

Completely refurbished in 2011, the property is in first-class condition and reflects a décor that is classic with modern sensibilities. Handpicked antiques sit together with modern pieces to infuse a warm, sophisticated ambiance. Dining and meeting room options include the Caxton Bar, Grill, and Terrace, plus 15 state-of-the-art conference and banquet rooms. Adding notable distinction to the hotel’s fine dining is the head chef of the Caxton Grill, Adam Handling. His numerous accolades include being a finalist in the “MasterChef” television show in 2013 and being named the “British Culinary Federation’s Chef of the Year 2014.”

St. Ermin's Hotel is located a minute’s walk from St. James’s Park, the oldest of the capital’s eight Royal Parks. The hotel’s location in Westminster central London makes it an ideal base for business or pleasure. St. James Park Underground and Victoria Railway Station are only a short walk away, as are fantastic shops, West End theaters, and a collection of major tourist attractions, including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey.
