Sunrider Makes Donation to the Chinese Foundation of Lifeline Express Council
Coinciding with the rapid business growth and development of China, Sunrider China has aimed at helping more people in remote districts to improve their health and quality of life. Recently, Sunrider donated RMB 2,500,000 (about US$365,600) to the Chinese Foundation of Lifeline Express Council. This donation represents full sponsorship for the building of the “Lifeline Express/Sunrider Microscopic Eye Surgery Training Center.”

The Foundation oversees the “Lifeline Express”—a fully equipped and specially designed train that functions as a mobile eye-hospital. Since 1997, the Lifeline Express has traveled to remote and poverty-stricken regions to provide free surgical procedures for cataract patients. But due to lack of funds, the Lifeline Express has had difficulties providing treatment for all those in need, making it necessary to prioritize patients through a selection process. Babies, children, young people, and workers were given first priority to receive surgery, which often means the chance to retain or regain sight. In looking for a solution to increase the scope of those receiving care, the Chinese Foundation of Lifeline Express Council set a new goal and direction—the building of Microscopic Eye Surgery Training Centers in less privileged districts and establishing a network to enhance the training and quality of medical treatment in these areas.

On November 10, 2008, the opening ceremony of the Lifeline Express/Sunrider Microscopic Eye Surgery Training Center was held at the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital. The vice-minister of the Ministry of Railways, Mr. Sun Yong-Fu; the founding chairman of Lifeline Express, Mrs. Nellie Fong; the founder and chairman of Sunrider International, Dr. Tei-Fu Chen; and the president of Sunrider International, Dr. Oi-Lin Chen, hosted the ceremonies. This is the 10th Microscopic Eye Surgery Training Center built by Lifeline Express in Mainland China, and all of the Training Centers are linked by satellite to form a network.

Drs. Chen, who have been involved with their own health-related business for almost three decades, have always been highly concerned about the development of medical treatment in Mainland China. Dr. Oi-Lin Chen practiced medicine in the United States for several years before joining her husband to run Sunrider full-time. She is delighted the donation will help the local medical site purchase new equipment and train staff. Drs. Chen also wholeheartedly appreciate all the Sunrider Authorized Business Leaders who supported the opening ceremony charity event.
